Don't Flush Wipes, Save your Pipes!

We want to remind all residents that flushing wipes, even ones labeled “flushable,” is a major cause of sewer blockages and pipe damage.

Why It Matters:

Unlike toilet paper, wipes (including baby wipes, makeup wipes, and cleaning wipes) don’t break down quickly in water. Instead, they stay intact and can clump together, catching grease, debris, and other materials as they travel through your pipes and the sewer system.

The Consequences:

Clogged Household Pipes: Wipes can cause backups in your home’s plumbing, leading to slow drains, foul smells, and expensive plumbing bills.

Sewer System Damage: On a larger scale, wipes can block pumps and pipes in the district’s wastewater system, which may require costly emergency repairs—costs that can impact the whole community.

Dispose of Wipes Properly:

All other items—including wipes, paper towels, diapers, and even “flushable” wipes should go in the trash, not the toilet.
